During the last decade many novel manufacturing practices such as process analytical technology (PAT), quality by design (QbD), and real time release (RTR) have been introduced to the pharmaceutical industry. To realize the benefits of these approaches, appropriate analytical tools are necessary.


One method is to extract inline/online process information through monitoring, to gain understanding of the process.  Another method is to control important quality attributes to ensure that the process performs as required.  It would be impossible to obtain real-time process information through traditional offline analytical techniques, however spectroscopic techniques allow us to probe the manufacturing processes and analyze product quality attributes non-invasively and in real-time.  Raman Spectroscopy is unique among these techniques, because of its insensitivity to water.   Therefore it is perfectly suitable for monitoring processes involving high water content.


During the webinar several Raman applications examining various unit operations with respect to product quality will be described.  A non-contact Raman dual probe setup to explore real-time wet granulation assisted form conversion simultaneously at two different locations will be presented.  The use of Raman to probe blending operations will be presented with real time and stop/go measurements. In addition, the advantage of using Raman in a temperature sensitive environment will be discussed.  Lastly, the advantages and challenges of each application will be presented
